Langes Messer

“Langes Messer” literally means “long knife”, and this short, solid weapon is excellent for close quarter cut-and-thrust type training. The handle is long enough to be a one-or two-hander, and the fishtail-shaped guard is just enough to protect your hand and that’s it. It is one solid piece of metal from stem to stern, and the handle is two slabs that are glued and pressure-fit between the riveted pommel and the guard. (Our choice of wood on the handle please.) The 27-28″ blade is SCA C&T legal, and shaped a bit like a backsword – only one side is considered a “cutting edge”. The tip is broadly rounded for extra safety; none of our plastic blunts will fit the tip. The whole sword weighs a little over 2 pounds – a short, chopping tool that will do its job admirably.
