Transitional Rapier Hilt (English cup) – Hilt

(Hilt only – 480g) This Transitional Rapier bridges the space from the Renaissance to the Baroque era of swords; it is contemporary with the cup hilt. There are several extant swords in the Wallace Museum, as well as a few in other European (continental) museums; it is also pictured in AVB Norman’s “Rapier and Small Sword” book as Hilt 97. It features a four-lobed, pierced plate with reinforced edges as the “cup” part, with “Clovers” as the piercework pattern. (Before you ask, no, the piercework cannot be altered.) The substantial quillon block is deeply incised with parallel lines, in contrast to the tightly curved quillons themselves.

It can have a range of handles; the one pictured is walnut.

It is pictured with the light cup hilt pommel for the 42″ DA1PR practice rapier blade, but you can upgrade to the DA2BR bated rapier and a heavier pommel for $10 more.
