This early 16th century hilt is almost certainly Spanish in origin; Ewart Oakshotte claims it to be the Spanish robe-sword that became known as the rapier. The extremely rare forward quillons (pierced) and knuckle-guard give it a unique style. This hilt has two posts on the outer guard to protect from a blade sliding down yours, and a simple loop on the inner guard to protect the thumb.
$240.00 – $260.00
The sword is best mounted with a sidesword blade (DA4SS), and with many of the earlier hilts looks great with a flat pommel.
